Wyandotte County’s Juneteenth Parade: Family Fun Awaits

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas will host Juneteenth in the Dotte. This is a cultural parade and community celebration. It will take place on Saturday, June 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is a collaboration among several UG departments and The Village Initiative. Juneteenth in the Dotte and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks also participate. Organizers say the celebration will feature family-friendly activities and honor the spirit of freedom and community.

Parade and Celebration
The parade begins at 9 a.m. at 27th and Vernon Avenue near the Quindaro Ruins Overlook. Festivities will continue at Klamm Park (2515 N. 27th Street, KCK) starting at 10 a.m.

This year’s parade will be led by Grand Marshal Mayor Tyrone A. Garner. The celebration at Klamm Park will be hosted by Andrea Tapia. She is the Executive Director and CEO of the Housing Authority of Kansas City, Kansas.

Attendees can enjoy a full day of activities. These include vendors, live entertainment, and games. There is also a car show and a drill team competition. Free food will be available.

Parade Participation
Organizations interested in joining the parade must complete an application and waiver form by Monday, June 9. Details are available on the Unified Government’s website.

Getting There
A free park-and-ride shuttle service will operate from Carl B. Bruce Middle School (2100 N. 18th Street, KCK) to Klamm Park between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
