The annual effort begins April 20 and invites people to practice kindness, understanding, and connection throughout the week and beyond.

SevenDays of Kindness is returning to the Unified Government (UG) of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, with a renewed call for employees and community members to lead with compassion, understanding, and small everyday acts of kindness.

The weeklong effort begins Monday, April 20, and is part of a broader mission to promote kindness for seven days and carry that spirit forward throughout the year. While many of the suggested activities are geared toward UG staff, the message reaches beyond the workplace.

SevenDays’ mission is to overcome hate by promoting kindness and understanding through education and dialogue. Organizers encourage people to take part by sharing their acts of kindness on social media using #BeTheRipple and #GiveSevenDays.

Kindness does not cost anything, but it can have a meaningful effect on the people around us. The campaign encourages people to notice others, speak with care, and take simple actions that make someone’s day better. It also reminds people to show kindness to themselves.

Mayor Christal Watson said the annual tradition continues to bring people together in a meaningful way.

“I am proud to see our employees and community members come together once again to celebrate the SevenDays of Kindness,” Watson said. “As a new Mayor, it is a pleasure to carry on this meaningful yearly tradition and see its positive impact grow. The Seven Days of Kindness is a powerful reminder that the simplest acts kindness offer encouragement, show compassion, and connect our community to make a lasting difference. By embracing each day’s theme, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering understanding and building a stronger, more caring community. I am hopeful these efforts will inspire kindness not just this week, but throughout the year.”

According to the UG, kindness can also support personal well-being by boosting serotonin and dopamine, which are linked to feelings of satisfaction and well-being.

This year’s SevenDays themes are Love, Discover, Others, Connect, You, Go, and Onward. Each day is meant to help participants focus on kindness and understanding more intentionally.
