The Kansas City, Kansas community is preparing to honor the life and service of Officer Hunter Simoncic, who tragically passed away earlier this month. According to the Unified Government, a public memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at Children’s Mercy Park, 1 Sporting Way, Kansas City, KS 66109.
The service will begin at 10 a.m. Gates to the stadium will open at 8 a.m., with parking available starting at 7:30 a.m. Public parking will be in Blue Lot 2 on the south side of the stadium at the Kansas Speedway. Officials note that Village West Parkway and France Family Drive will be closed to public traffic during the event.
For those unable to attend in person, the memorial will be livestreamed on the Unified Government’s YouTube channel: Honoring the Life and Service of Fallen Officer Hunter Simoncic.
Processional details
Following the service, a law enforcement processional will begin approximately 30 minutes after dismissal. The procession will depart from Children’s Mercy Park and follow this route:
- France Family Drive to Village West Parkway
- Village West Parkway south to State Avenue
- State Avenue east to I-635
- I-635 northbound to Parallel Parkway
- Parallel Parkway east to N. 5th Street
- N. 5th Street north to Stewart Avenue
- Stewart Avenue east to N. 3rd Street
- N. 3rd Street south to Washington Boulevard
- Washington Boulevard west to N. 7th Street
- N. 7th Street south to I-70
- I-70 westbound to I-435 northbound
Outside agencies and public participants will be dismissed at the I-70/I-435 interchange, while the family and KCKPD will continue.
Supporting the family
Community members are encouraged to continue displaying blue ribbons at homes and businesses as a sign of unity and support for Officer Simoncic’s family and the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.
The official memorial fund for Officer Simoncic has been established through the Kansas City, Kansas Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #4. Donations may be made to the KCK FOP Memorial Fund c/o Simoncic Family at any Public Safety Credit Union location. All proceeds will go directly to the family.
