Sumner Academy Ranked Best High School in Kansas for Seventh Straight Year

For the seventh year in a row, Sumner Academy of Arts and Science has been named the best high school in Kansas by U.S. News & World Report.

According to Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS), the annual rankings released on Aug. 19 evaluated more than 24,000 public schools across the country and ranked nearly 18,000 of them. Sumner Academy once again claimed the top spot in Kansas while also being recognized among the nation’s leading high schools.

“This ranking is a true testament to the students and staff,” said Principal Rick Malone. “They work hard every day to achieve academic excellence, and I am incredibly proud of the dedication and ownership our community shows in maintaining this standard.”

The rankings are determined using six measures, including college readiness, state test scores, graduation rates, and the academic performance of historically underserved student groups. All data is collected from third-party sources.

“To be recognized as the number one high school in Kansas for the seventh consecutive year, and to also rank among the top schools nationally, reflects the sustained excellence and commitment that defines Sumner Academy,” Malone said.

He added that the school’s success is deeply rooted in its history. “Our success is built on a strong academic foundation that stretches back decades to the legacy of Sumner High School. We talk often about leaving a legacy of excellence, and that mindset continues to inspire our students and staff today.”
