Kansas City, Kansas residents may notice trash and recycling trucks arriving earlier than usual this week. Waste Management (WM), the city’s collection contractor, will start service at 6 a.m. on Friday to allow local crews to attend the funeral of a team member who recently passed away.
According to the Unified Government, WM trucks will resume routes in the afternoon to finish the day’s collection. Officials said that if some households are missed Friday, residents should leave their carts out on Saturday. Crews are expected to return and finish service over the weekend.
Solid Waste Manager Diana Miles said the adjustment is a way to balance community service. It also shows compassion for the workers who lost a colleague.
“Our thoughts are with the WM team during this difficult time,” Miles said. “We also want to ensure residents know their collections will still be completed, even if service times look different than normal.”
The Unified Government is encouraging residents to set carts out before 6 a.m. Friday to guarantee pickup.
