New Year’s Day Holiday Shifts Trash and Recycling Pickup by One Day

Thursday and Friday routes will run later than usual during the holiday week.

Residential trash and recycling collection in Kansas City, Kansas, will shift by one day during the week of New Year’s Day, affecting Thursday and Friday service.

According to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG), there will be no residential trash or recycling collection on Thursday, January 1, 2026, due to the New Year’s Day holiday. Thursday routes will instead be collected on Friday, and Friday routes will be collected on Saturday. Collection from Monday through Wednesday will not be impacted.
