The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has partnered with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. They have announced the recipients of their 2025 scholarship program. Seven students from Wyandotte County high schools will receive a combined $31,000. This will support their education in STEM fields. It will also assist in technical trades and utility careers.
For the 2025–2026 academic year, five students were awarded $5,000 scholarships:
- Evan Hayes Scruggs – Piper High School, Oklahoma State University, Aerospace Engineering
- Maya Angela Williams – Sumner Academy of Arts & Science, Kansas State University, Civil Engineering
- Christian Eduardo Pazos Chinchilla – Wyandotte High School, University of Missouri–Kansas City, Mechanical Engineering
- Immanuel Davis Murphy – Sumner Academy of Arts & Science, Kansas State University, Environmental Engineering
- Frances-Faith C. Obiesie – Piper High School, Baylor University, Electrical and Computer Engineering
Two students were awarded $3,000 scholarships:
- Benjamin Joseph Cullum – Bonner Springs High School, Metropolitan Community College, Lineman Training Program
- Emma Grace Lara – Bonner Springs High School, Coffeyville Community College, Secondary Education with an emphasis in Biology
The BPU Scholarship Fund provides up to $5,000 for students pursuing four-year STEM degrees. It offers up to $3,000 for those entering vocational programs, technical training, or lineman apprenticeships.
