The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has appointed Nick Moreno as its first Stakeholder Engagement Manager. His appointment is effective May 3, 2025. According to BPU, the new role underscores its focus on community partnership, transparency, and public engagement.
Moreno most recently served as a BPU communications specialist. The utility states he has over six years of experience. He has worked with school districts, civic leaders, nonprofits, and neighborhood groups across Wyandotte County. His work has included event planning, executive visibility, and employee engagement.
In his new role, Moreno will lead strategies to build trust-based relationships. These relationships will be long-term with customers and community partners. He will also engage elected officials and advocacy groups. According to BPU, he will align sponsorships, improve responsiveness, and represent the utility in high-visibility settings.
“Nick understands the importance of presence, professionalism, and partnership,” said Amber Oetting, Director of Communications and Marketing. “He brings authenticity and strategic thinking to every conversation and has earned the trust of colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders alike.”
Moreno is a graduate of the University of Missouri–Kansas City and a Leadership 2000 alumnus. He serves on the Leadership 2000 board. He has held leadership roles in cultural programming. He is active in DEI initiatives throughout the region.
