This week’s winter storm has halted all residential trash and recycling collection in Kansas City, Kansas. According to the Unified Government, Waste Management (WM) will resume regular service on Monday, January 13. Residents should place items at the curb or street edge on their usual collection day next week.
“We understand the inconvenience this creates for residents and appreciate everyone’s patience as we navigate these challenges,” said Diana Miles, Public Works’ Solid Waste Manager. “Our team and WM are working together to ensure a safe return to regular trash and recycling services next week. In the meantime, we ask residents to stay safe and take care when placing their items for collection.”
The storm left heavy snow and ice across the county, making residential routes especially difficult. Public Works’ Snow Crew has focused first on Hot Routes and Secondary Routes, with crews continuing work in neighborhoods.
Officials expect higher-than-usual trash volumes when service resumes. To help collection run efficiently, residents are encouraged to limit bulky items during next week’s pickup.
