Registered Dietitian Will Support Local Families with Food, Health, and Safety Education.
Wyandotte County’s K-State Research and Extension office has welcomed a new face to its Family and Consumer Sciences team.
Lauren Woody is the new Nutrition, Food Safety, and Health Extension Agent, and she is excited to continue serving residents across the Dotte in this expanded role.
According to Wyandotte County K-State Research and Extension, Woody is originally from Dallas, Texas, and first moved to the region to study nutrition. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Arkansas in 2023, then completed a Master of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition and a dietetic internship at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She became a Registered Dietitian in September 2025.
Woody already knows the Wyandotte County Extension office well. During her dietetic internship, she completed a Community Nutrition rotation at the local office and later joined the team as a part-time Family and Consumer Sciences Program Assistant in 2024. In that role, she delivered research-based nutrition and health education to individuals and families throughout the county and helped teach K-State Extension signature programs.
Extension staff note that her work has focused on chronic disease prevention, food safety, physical activity, and healthy lifestyle habits. As the new Nutrition, Food Safety, and Health Agent, Woody will continue this outreach while taking a larger role in planning, teaching, and supporting programs for all ages. Her background as a Registered Dietitian also means she can help connect national nutrition guidance to everyday choices in local homes, workplaces, and classrooms.
A spokesperson with Wyandotte County K-State Research and Extension said Woody’s mix of education, local experience, and passion for community health makes her a strong fit for the position. They added that residents are likely to see her teaching classes, partnering with community groups, and providing practical tools for healthier living.
Residents who want to learn more about upcoming nutrition and health programs can contact the Wyandotte County K-State Extension office for class schedules, volunteer opportunities, and ways to bring Extension programs into their schools, congregations, or neighborhood groups.
