Four local treatment plants honored for outstanding performance.
The Unified Government (UG) reports that the Environmental Services Division (KCKES) has received multiple national awards. The awards are from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA). They recognize exceptional permit compliance during the 2024 calendar year.
The recognition highlights the division’s continued success in protecting local waterways through excellence in wastewater treatment operations. Each facility operates 24 hours a day. They operate seven days a week. This ensures millions of gallons of wastewater are treated safely. The treatment meets the high standards of the Clean Water Act.
Four KCKES facilities were honored by NACWA:
- Platinum Award – Kaw Point Treatment Plant. This award recognizes nine consecutive years of perfect compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
- Platinum Award – Plant 14, recognizing seven consecutive years of complete and consistent NPDES permit compliance.
- Silver Award – Plant 3, recognizing full compliance throughout 2024.
- Silver Award – Wolcott Wastewater Treatment Facility, recognizing full compliance throughout 2024.
“The Environmental Services team takes great pride in their work,” said Kressa Anderson, Environmental Compliance Manager. “Maintaining this level of compliance takes precision, teamwork, and a shared commitment to doing what’s right for our community and our waterways.”
According to the UG, these awards place Kansas City, Kansas, among the nation’s top-performing utilities recognized by NACWA. The Environmental Services Division’s success reflects its long-term commitment to environmental stewardship, technical excellence, and public service.
