Feedback Needed for Trash and Recycling Pilot Program

Kansas City, Kansas residents living in the Trash and Recycling Carts Pilot Program area are being asked to share their thoughts on how the new system is working. A short survey is now open through November 1, 2025.

According to the Unified Government (UG), the pilot program launched earlier this year to test standardized trash and recycling carts in a select area. The goal is to improve collection efficiency, reduce litter, and provide more consistent service across neighborhoods.

To help keep costs down, survey postcards were mailed to a sample of households in the pilot area. However, all residents in the area are welcome to participate. The survey can be completed online at wycokck.org/CartsSurvey. Those who would like a paper copy may call 3-1-1 to request one by mail.

“Resident feedback is essential to making this program successful,” said Diana Miles, Solid Waste Manager. “The pilot is helping us learn what works well and what could be improved, so we can make better decisions before expanding carts to Phase 2. We encourage every household in the pilot area to take a few minutes to share their experience.”

The UG noted that survey results will be used to guide future phases of the program and ensure the final system meets the needs of the community. More details about the program, including a map of the Phase 1 area, can be found on the Trash and Recycling Carts Pilot Program webpage.
