Unlike most holiday weeks, trash and recycling collection in Kansas City, Kansas will run on schedule this Independence Day. Waste Management (WM) will provide service as usual on Friday, July 4, 2025, with no delays expected.
Residents should continue placing carts at the curb by 6 a.m. on their regular collection day, according to the Unified Government.
Fireworks Disposal: Safety First
After the celebrations, officials urge residents to take extra precautions when discarding fireworks to prevent trash fires and protect sanitation crews:
- Soak used, dud, and unused fireworks in water before placing them in the trash. Wait at least 20 minutes before handling duds.
- Bag soaked fireworks before setting them at the curb.
- Keep fireworks debris away from buildings or vehicles.
- Collect all fragments to prevent litter and keep storm drains clear.
- Avoid setting out bulky items or extra-large volumes of trash this week so WM crews can finish routes on time.
