KCK Fire Department Hosts Family Fun Day at Legends Outlets

The Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department (KCKFD) is teaming up with Legends Outlets for a free event. It is family-friendly and combines fun activities with fire safety education. Mission Ready: Firefighter Fun & Family Day will take place on Saturday, June 28, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Legends Outlets, 1843 Village West Parkway.

The centerpiece of the event is a screening of Mission Ready: A Day in the Life of KCKFD Firefighters. It is a 15-minute documentary filmed at KCKFD Headquarters. The short film provides a behind-the-scenes look at a 24-hour shift and the challenges firefighters face daily.

“Mission Ready is more than just a film, it’s a powerful story about the people who protect our city,” said Scott Schaunaman, KCKFD Assistant Chief of Training and Public Information Officer. “This event gives families the chance to meet our team, experience the tools we use, and walk away with life-saving fire safety knowledge.”

Alongside the screenings, families can take part in hands-on activities and demonstrations, including:

  • Junior Firefighter Obstacle Course
  • “Touch a Truck” fire engine experience
  • Fire prevention and live extinguisher demos
  • Live firefighter demonstrations, including the Jaws of Life
  • Ask-a-Firefighter career booth
  • Meet Zoom, the Live-Find K9, and Ember, the Support K9
  • Face painting, temporary tattoos, and giveaways for kids

The documentary will be shown twice on the big screen at The Lawn, at 12 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
