Prepare for Severe Weather: Join the Force of Nature Campaign

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas (UG) has joined the Be a Force of Nature campaign. The goal is to remind residents of the importance of preparing for severe weather before it strikes.

The national campaign, led by FEMA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, encourages people to know their risk. They should also take action and set an example for others.

“Taking preparedness actions can save lives and protect property at home, at school, in neighborhoods, and in the workplace,” UG officials said.

In 2022 alone, the United States faced multiple billion-dollar disasters. These included severe storms, drought, tropical cyclones, wildfires, and winter storms. These events caused significant loss of life and property damage.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Know Your Risk – Learn about hazards that affect your area and their potential impacts. Resources are available at ready.gov/be-informed and the National Weather Service’s Weather-Ready Nation website.
  • Take Action – Develop and practice an emergency plan. Make an emergency kit and post your plan in a visible place at home.
  • Be an Example – Share your preparedness steps with friends, neighbors, and co-workers to help others get ready too.

The Unified Government emphasized that community-wide preparedness builds resilience and ensures Wyandotte County is ready when severe weather hits.
