The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) has announced a closure of all government buildings. This closure will happen on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, because of forecasted severe winter weather.
According to the UG, staff will continue working remotely to provide services. The 3-1-1 Call Center will remain available 24/7. Community members can report service issues at any time.
Service Impacts
- District Court: All in-person hearings scheduled for Feb. 12 will be rescheduled by the respective division. Remote hearings may still proceed at the discretion of the assigned judge. Residents with remote hearings should contact their assigned division to confirm status.
- Municipal Court: The Kansas City, Kansas Municipal Court will be closed Feb. 12. All cases scheduled that day will be continued, and notices will be mailed later this week. Residents with questions or address changes should email kckmunicourt@wycokck.org or call 913-573-5200.
- Trash and Recycling: Waste Management (WM) has announced weather-related delays for the week of Feb. 12:
- Wednesday collection will occur Thursday, Feb. 13
- Thursday collection will occur Friday, Feb. 14
- Friday collection will occur Saturday, Feb. 15
Residents are asked to place items at the curb on their revised pickup day.
- Transit: Riders may experience weather-related delays. Residents can sign up for service notifications via RideKC Notify by text, email, or phone.
- Cold Weather Shelter: The KCK Cold Weather Shelter, located at 645 Nebraska Avenue, will open at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11. The shelter has a capacity of 40 guests on a first-come, first-served basis. It will remain open overnight until 7 a.m. Wednesday. The Willa Gill Center will also provide daytime warming services. - Community & Recreation Centers: All centers will be closed Feb. 12 and will not be available as warming shelters.
Officials encourage residents to use caution when traveling. They should check on neighbors. It’s important to take advantage of warming shelter resources during the extreme cold.
