Beginning February 1, 2025, all customer service inquiries for residential trash and recycling in Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas will change. Inquiries will transition to Waste Management (WM). According to the Unified Government (UG), this change is designed to improve efficiency. It aims to reduce delays and connect residents directly with the service delivery team.
“This transition will simplify the reporting process for residents and ensure their issues are resolved faster by connecting them directly with WM, the team responsible for service delivery,” said Diana Miles, Solid Waste Manager.
How to Contact WM
Residents will be able to report missed collections and access service information through several convenient options:
- Visit WM.com – Sign up for 24-hour account access. WM has mailed letters with Customer IDs and step-by-step registration instructions.
- Download the My WM Mobile App – Available for Android and iOS. Use the Customer ID provided in your WM letter to register.
- Call WM – Speak with a representative at 1-800-796-9696.
After February 1, all trash and recycling calls made to the UG’s 3-1-1 Call Center will be forwarded to WM. If residents have not received their Customer ID by February 3, they should call WM directly for assistance.
Expanded Customer Service Options
WM will also offer:
- Online tools to check collection schedules, recycling guidelines, and submit support requests.
- Live chat with agents Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Support request forms with responses within two business days.
- Interactive voice response to help route calls quickly and accurately.
The UG noted that the transition supports the 2024 Commission priorities. These priorities aim to improve customer service and communication. They also focus on meeting WM’s contractual responsibilities.
