The Unified Government (UG) has launched its 2026 Community Survey, with select Wyandotte County residents beginning to receive surveys in their mailboxes this week.
According to the UG, the survey is administered by Olathe-based ETC Institute and is mailed to a random sample of residents. The survey gathers input on quality of life, public services, programs and neighborhood priorities. Results will be presented to the UG Board of Commissioners as part of the 2027 budget process, which begins in March.
“We hope all households receiving the survey will do their part and complete the survey,” said UG Research Manager Mike Grim. “Hearing directly from our residents will assist the UG Commission during the budget season this summer. It’s important to stress that this survey is anonymous, and answers to questions will not be revealed, but compiled with all the other surveys received.”
This year’s survey includes two versions. One is designed for Kansas City, Kansas residents and focuses on city services. The second is for Wyandotte County residents, including those in Bonner Springs, Edwardsville and Lake Quivira, and focuses on county services.
The UG stated that ETC Institute develops a randomized sample and verifies that it reflects the community as reported in the 2020 U.S. Census. Each Commission District will be equally represented, and the sampled population will reflect neighborhoods within each district.
Residents who receive the survey are encouraged to complete and return it as soon as possible. Participants may also enter to win a gift card. All responses will remain anonymous.
“This community survey will give us a clear and honest picture of what our residents are experiencing and what they value most,” said County Administrator David W. Johnston, ICMA-CM. “Results from the survey will ensure that our decisions are guided by data and real voices, and will help strengthen relationships between the UG and the community we serve.”
The survey will remain open for several weeks, with results expected to be presented in early May 2026.
