Free drop-off sites open through early February.
Residents can recycle their natural holiday trees at no cost through a seasonal program offered by the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department.
According to the Unified Government (UG), tree recycling drop-off sites are open beginning Friday, December 26, 2025, and will remain available through Sunday, February 1, 2026. The program is open to anyone in Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.
Four local parks are serving as designated drop-off locations:
- City Park, 2601 Park Drive, Kansas City, Kansas 66102. Trees may be placed on the grass south and east of the Park Drive entrance.
- Leo Alvey Park, 4834 Metropolitan Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66106. Drop-off is located on the north side of the south parking lot.
- Stony Point Park, 527 North 86th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Trees should be placed in the northeast corner of the parking lot.
- Wyandotte County Park, 631 North 126th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66012. The drop-off area is near the baseball fields.
Residents are asked to remove all decorations, lights, tinsel, and stands before placing trees at any of the sites. Only natural trees are accepted.
A spokesperson with the UG said Parks and Recreation ground crews will collect tree piles from each location one to two times per week throughout the program period, with all drop-offs ending on February 1.
