Apply Now: Utility and Property Tax Rebates for Seniors

Appointments are filling quickly. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) is expanding hours. This helps seniors and residents with disabilities apply for this year’s property, utility, and sales tax rebate programs.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 10, the Clerk’s Office will offer extended appointment times at three community sites. They will also provide weekday walk-in hours at the Municipal Building. The programs provide relief to residents with annual incomes of $42,600 or less. These residents are either age 65 or older. They may also be living with a disability.

Since launching on Jan. 2, the UG has already processed $221,422.88 in rebates. Last year, more than 1,300 applications were approved, totaling nearly $891,381 in rebates. Officials say expanding hours will give more residents time to apply before the April 15 deadline.

How to Apply

Residents must schedule an appointment by calling 3-1-1. They should bring required documents such as proof of income, Social Security or retirement statements, and identification. Free transportation to appointments may be available with at least 48 hours’ notice.
