Closure begins Jan. 26 as crews shift roadway and build new roundabout.
A portion of Village West Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas will temporarily close later this month to accommodate construction of the city’s first Buc-ee’s travel center.
According to Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, Village West Parkway will close between Speedway Boulevard and the project’s eastern limit just west of Hollywood Casino Boulevard beginning Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. The closure is expected to remain in place until late September, depending on construction progress.
The closure is needed to shift the existing roadway north and construct a new roundabout that will provide access to the Buc-ee’s site at Interstate 70 and Village West Parkway. The travel center will measure approximately 74,000 square feet.
The road closure plan was developed jointly by Buc-ee’s, Cleveland Construction, and the UG in an effort to reduce impacts to nearby businesses and the surrounding area.
Motorists are advised to follow posted detour signs, which will be installed beginning Jan. 13. Drivers traveling through the area should plan for additional travel time during the closure.
Jeff Nadalo, general counsel for Buc-ee’s, said the company recognizes the importance of Village West Parkway, particularly given its proximity to Kansas Speedway and other major destinations.
“We’re working closely with the Unified Government and Cleveland Construction to ensure the road reopens as soon as possible,” Nadalo said.
The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department and Fire Department have been briefed on the closure and alternative access routes to help maintain public safety during construction.
Once completed, the Buc-ee’s travel center is expected to include more than 120 fueling positions, a wide selection of food and retail offerings, and create more than 225 full-time jobs with benefits.
