The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) has scheduled a public hearing to discuss financing for a new affordable housing development in Kansas City, Kansas.
According to KCATA, the hearing will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Authority’s offices, 1200 E. 18th Street in Kansas City, Missouri, Breen Conference Room. Community members may also join the meeting virtually on Zoom.
The hearing will cover the proposed issuance of up to $52.5 million in financing instruments to support the Redbud Reserve project. The development, located at 6909 State Avenue, will feature 192 affordable apartments in a transit-oriented setting. KCATA officials said the project is designed to increase housing density along bus routes while supporting federal transit goals to strengthen public transportation.
The Redbud Reserve facility would be owned by KCATA and operated as a transit-based housing project. Authority leaders emphasized that the financing will not create debt for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas, or the State of Kansas. Instead, the debt will be repaid through revenues generated by the facility itself.
The public is invited to attend the hearing and share comments in person or online. Written comments may also be submitted in advance.
